Introducing Founder Reality: Building a Community of Authentic Builders
I envision Founder Reality as a place where builders help builders grow. Not through generic advice, but through shared real experiences and open-sourcing our frameworks together.
We're All Tired of the Performance
I've been building companies for six years, and I'm exhausted by the founder content circus.
The highlight reels. The LinkedIn humblebrags. The Twitter threads that read like motivational posters.
Everyone's 'crushing it' and 'learning valuable lessons' while sharing the same recycled advice they've NEVER actually implemented.
Here's what happened this week while I'm writing this blog post:
I lost a major partnership at 8pm on Tuesday, spent the night questioning every decision I've made, and by Wednesday morning had pivoted our entire strategy. That night, I worked until midnight rebuilding what we'd spent months creating.
Every founder's reality is like this: messy, unfiltered, and nothing like the content circus suggests.
What I'm Building Here
Building a startup is 90% unsexy work, 10% exciting milestones.

Founder Reality isn't just another podcast or blog.
It's my attempt to create something different: a community where we share what's actually happening as we build, not what we think will get likes on social media.
Every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, I'll break down real decisions from building SimpleDirect (embedded financing for contractors) and ANC (my AI venture studio).
Not the sanitized versions - the actual thought processes, mistakes, and consequences.
But this goes beyond just entrepreneurship content. I want to open-source the frameworks, mindsets, and approaches that have helped me navigate everything from technical challenges to team management to personal decision-making.
Why open-source? Because the best insights come from collective experience. I've learned more from other founders sharing their real stories than from any business book or course.
The Community Vision
Being a founder is like being a transformer.

Statutory holidays and weekends don't mean much when you're truly free.
I envision Founder Reality as a place where builders help builders grow. Not through generic advice, but through:
Share Real Experiences: When I talk about managing a distributed team, it's because I'm currently figuring out how to coordinate developers in India while running operations from Toronto. When I discuss AI implementation, it's because I just shipped a feature using Claude and GitHub Copilot.
Documenting Our Frameworks Together: Every decision-making model, every evaluation process, every approach I use to solve problems - I'll document it here. Not as the "right" way, but as one way that's working for me right now.
Learning, Always, Together: Your experiences, challenges, and solutions are just as valuable as mine. This space will evolve to include guest insights, community discussions, and collaborative problem-solving.
Tracking Our Progress Together: I'll share the real metrics - revenue numbers, team changes, strategic pivots, personal struggles. Progress isn't always linear, and our community should reflect that reality.
What You Can Expect
From the Podcast
Three episodes weekly, which will cover one or more of these topics:
- Founder Mindsets: The mental models and frameworks I use to make decisions.
- Founder Reality: Deep-dive stories from building my companies, with real outcomes.

AI tools come and go. AI-enhanced businesses that solve real problems compound forever. Build accordingly.

Community Transparency and Open-Sourcing
I'm committing to radical transparency in how I build, think, and make decisions. This means:
Sharing the Playbooks: Every hiring process, every client onboarding sequence, every strategic planning framework I develop gets documented here.
Real Numbers: When I can share financial metrics, team composition, or operational data that might help others, I will.
Failure Analysis: When strategies don't work, when hires go wrong, when I make bad decisions - those stories get told with full context.
The smartest people I know regularly say 'I was wrong about that.'
— George Pu (@TheGeorgePu) July 31, 2025
The dumbest people I know never change their minds about anything.
Methodology Iteration: As I learn and adapt my approaches, I'll update the documented frameworks and explain what changed and why.
Think of it as GitHub for founder knowledge - version-controlled insights that everyone can fork, improve, and contribute back to.
From Our Community
- Authentic discussions about real founder challenges.
- Shared frameworks that others can adapt and improve.
- Collaborative problem-solving on complex business issues.
- Network effects - connecting builders who can help each other.
My Personal Framework on Building
Here are some core approaches that guide how I build my current companies:
- Substance Over Performance: Every decision is optimized for actual results, not how it looks on social media. This applies to everything from hiring to product development to content creation.
- Bootstraping: Building profitable, sustainable companies without external capital. This constraint forces creative solutions and efficient operations.
- AI-First: Not AI for the sake of AI, but thoughtful integration where it actually improves outcomes. I'll share what works, what doesn't, and why.
- Building Globally: Building from Toronto with teams across multiple countries. Remote-first where it works, in-person where it's better.
- Speed Over Everything: I prefer making quick decisions and adjusting based on results rather than perfect planning. Speed of learning beats speed of planning.
How This Helps You
Whether you're a technical founder, considering entrepreneurship, or building your first team, this community is designed to accelerate your learning curve.
Instead of making the same mistakes I made, you can learn from documented failures and adapt proven frameworks to your situation.
Instead of wondering whether your challenges are normal, you can see real examples of how others navigate similar problems.
Instead of consuming generic advice, you can access specific methodologies that have been tested in real business environments.
Most importantly, you'll have a community of builders who understand that the journey is messy, uncertain, and nothing like the highlight reels suggest.
What I Need From You
This community only works if it's genuinely collaborative:
- Share Your Reality: When you face challenges, make decisions, or learn something valuable - document it. Not the polished version, the real one.
- Question the Frameworks: If something I share doesn't work for your situation, tell me why. The best insights come from stress-testing ideas across different contexts.
- Contribute Your Methods: You have approaches and frameworks that have worked for you. This community gets stronger when we all contribute to the knowledge base.
- Stay Authentic: The moment this becomes another performance platform, we've lost what makes it valuable.
